A Book Talk on Science-Fiction: Join Tashan Mehta, Rajat Chaudhuri, and Gautam Bhatia in a Unique Discussion

A Book Talk on Science FIction

Three authors walk into a bookstore and talk science-fiction. That’s exactly what will happen at Kunzum Vasant Vihar on March 4. And you’re invited to join them! Kunzum Book Club is proud to present a book talk on science-fiction and the overarching genre of speculative fiction with three authors who have published amazing books that fall under these categories.

Rajat Chaudhuri has published critically acclaimed novels, short story collections, translations, and edited volumes of speculative and solarpunk stories in English and Bengali. His new work of fiction, Spellcasters, and another co-edited anthology of solarpunk stories will be out later this year. His previous novel, The Butterfly Effect, about a genetic engineering accident triggering a pandemic is taught in Indian and American universities. Rajat has spoken widely about climate fiction (cli-fi) and possible futures in venues like Museum of Science Fiction (Washington DC), University of Oxford, Indian National Library, and bookstores.

Tashan Mehta is the author of The Liar’s Weave, which was shortlisted for the Prabha Khaitan Woman’s Voice Award. Her short stories have featured in Magical Women, the Gollancz Book of South Asian Science Fiction: Volume II, and PodCastle. She was fellow at the 2015 and 2021 Sangam House International Writers’ Residency (India) and writer-in-residence at Anglia Ruskin University (UK) in 2018. In 2020, she created the artefact On Unknown Things for the Barbican (UK), which sought to capture the essence of the multidisciplinary residency Fieldwork 0.2. Her next novel, Mad Sisters of Esi, will be published in October 2023 by HarperCollins India.

Gautam Bhatia is an SF writer and reviewer, and an editor of the Hugo Award-nominated Strange Horizons magazine. He is the author of The Wall and The Horizon, an SF duology published by HarperCollins India. Both books were long-listed for the annual Locus Magazine award (in 2021 and 2022). His short stories have appeared in The Gollancz Book of South Asian Science Fiction (“The List”) and LiveMint (“Orumai’s Choice”). He has twice been long-listed for the Astounding Award for Best New Writer, awarded at the World Science Fiction Convention along with the Hugo Awards. His non-fiction and critical reviews of SF have appeared in The Caravan, The Hindustan Times, The Hindu, and Strange Horizons. He is also involved with the Delhi Science Fiction Reading Circle, a monthly reading circle of science fiction enthusiasts and readers based in Delhi.
