Privacy is the most important thing when it comes to using a social media platform or messaging app. And the recent turn of events has only made users more unsure about what tech giants are doing with their data. Although it was a while ago when WhatsApp encrypted its users’ messages, the popular application ironically did not really have an actual app locking feature to keep messages and other content safe from stray and even not-so-stray eyes — anyone who could unlock your phone could see your WhatsApp messages.
But WhatsApp, with its latest update, has provided a solution to this problem, for iPhone users (Android users will also get it soon, we hope). In the latest update that the messaging application has rolled out, it has added an app locking feature to WhatsApp, with support for biometric authentication. This means users can now put a lock on their WhatsApp messenger and unlock the app using FaceID or TouchID.
And it is pretty easy, too. You can put a lock on WhatsApp on your iPhone by following these simple steps:
Step 1: Get the latest WhatsApp from App Store
In order to get the Screen Lock feature on your WhatsApp, you will need to get the latest version of the messaging platform. All you need to do is head to the AppStore on your iPhone and look up WhatsApp. If the app requires an update then hit that “Update” icon and wait for the application to get, well… updated.
Step 2: Open the app and head to Settings
Once you get the latest version of the application on your iPhone, you need to open WhatsApp, and head to Settings via the Settings option present on the bottom right of your screen.
Step 3: Tap on Account
Hitting the Settings icon will take you to another window with different options. There, you have to tap on the Account icon.
Step 4: Select Privacy
Once you get into Account, you will find a new set of options there. You need to select the first option on this window, called Privacy.
Step 5: Select Screen Lock
The Privacy option takes you to the final stage of this process. On this window, you have to select the last option, Screen Lock, on that window. Tapping the icon will take you to another screen, where you will find a toggle labelled “FaceID” for iPhone X and above, and “TouchID” for iPhone 8 and below. Tap on the toggle to get the screen lock feature on your WhatsApp messenger.
Step 6: And customise time
Once you have added a lock on your messenger, you can choose the time after which you will need to unlock your application again. There are four options, “Immediately”, “After 1 minute”, “After 15 minutes” and After 1 hour” to choose from.
Select the one which suits your needs the best, and put a lock on your iPhone’s WhatsApp to make sure no one but you can access your WhatsApp.
