Lok Theatre, in association with Kunzum Travel Cafe, presents, LT Masterclass 101: Mithila Painting
ABOUT THE EVENT
As no space is left empty, ‘Mithila’ painting thrives on filled nuances. It is skill and beauty, traditionally passed by women of Mithila from generation to generation using natural hues and pigments. Mithila painting is recognised as Bharni, Katchni, Tantrik, Godna and Kohbar. From mud walls to floors, cloth to paper, while Mithila painting changes its form, its essence remains the same. It tides from the sun and the moon to the nature scenes, from epic stories to people, bringing people of Madhubani closer to the world and people of the world closer to Bihar.
With the hope of preserving the beauty of Mithila painting, and to advance a community of art lovers, Lok Theatre brings together its first Masterclass on Mithila Painting. The aim is not just to pass on the traditional knowledge of Mithila way of painting, but also, to talk, discuss and understand the larger ecosystem of art and aesthetics in contemporary India.
LT Masterclass is an initiative of Lok Theatre to connect art curators with art connoisseurs. In this series, they envision to bring forth one treasured art form of India once every month.
