Mate Maestro? Six Features That Make the Huawei Mate 20 Pro Special

It does not come cheap. Indeed at Rs 69,990, the Hauwei Mate 20 Pro is one of the most expensive devices we have seen from the brand. But that said, there is no doubt that it is also definitely very different from the run of the mill premium Android flagships in the market. Yes it has the normal “best processor, lots of RAM, lots of connectivity, good storage, great display, under fingerprint scanner” and other features that most flagships talk about. But what makes really special is the fact that it has certain features that no other phone out there possesses. So you are not only getting a lot of hardware bang for all those bucks but also among others, these six unique features:

92 megapixels of shooting power, with Leica to boot
Yes, we know Samsung has come out with a phone with four cameras at the back. But the three on the rear of the Mate 20 Pro frankly blow all the competition out of the water. The three cameras on the back  are a 40 megapixel main sensor, a 20 megapixel ultra wide sensor, and a 8 megapixel telephoto sensor. And the 20 megapixel camera from the legendary house of Leica.  Need more? The selfie camera is a 24 megapixel one. There are 92 megapixels of shooting power on this device.

That design
At a time when most phones are difficult to distinguish in terms of design, the Mate 20 Pro totally stands out from the crowd. Yes, it has a brilliant gradient finish at the back and a flowing edge to edge design in front, but what really – REALLY – marks it out from the crowd is the arrangement of the three cameras and the flash in a square at the rear. No other phone has it. You cannot mistake the Mate 20 Pro for any other phone from the back.

More zoom options than any device…and a great macro
The Mate 20 Pro allows you to get an optical zoom of upto 3X, which itself is quite a figure. You also get enhanced digital zoom of 5X where you can zoom in without too much loss of detail. Even the ultra wide lens lets you get a 0.6x optical zoom. We have never seen so many zoom options on a single device. And there is a special macro mode that lets you shoot from within 2.5 cm of the subject. Now, if that is not getting close, we do not know what is. Even many proper cameras struggle at that range!

An all seeing AI
We keep hearing about Artificial Intelligence (AI) in phones but we do not think we have seen any company implement it as effectively in a camera as Huawei has in the Mate 20 Pro. The camera comes with Master AI which can identify a massive 1500 scenes spread across 25 categories, and can adjust camera settings optimally for each. And it does so at a blindingly fast speed, so quickly that you would not even notice it.  And that is not all – the AI also works in conjunction with the camera to identify objects using the HiVision feature. It is not just point and shoot but also point and find out. Pretty cool!

The best GPS in the world. Period
The Mate 20 Pro comes with (pause for breath and jargon alert) “Dual Frequency AI Satellite-Selection GPS (L1 and L5). Simple English? The phone is likely to deliver the most accurate location of yours to different location based applications. Theoretically, this is ten times more accurate than the usual level. Getting lost might not be an option, even if you are surrounded by high rise buildings.

A battery that can be charged fast and charges others…wirelessly
The Mate 20 Pro comes with a large 4200 mAh battery. Impressive? Well, it can get charged up to 70 per cent in just half an hour using the charger in the box. Not too bad, right? Well, it also supports wireless charging. And if you can use a supported accessory, it can even charge reasonably fast wirelessly. And we saved the best for last – you can actually charge a phone that supports wireless charging by simply placing it on the back of the Mate 20 Pro! How cool is that?
