Would you like a home on a hill by a river? Where birds give the morning wake-up call, leaves rustle musically all day and frogs sing the lullaby at night? Set amidst lush forests, this is the place to rediscover the meaning of leisure where idling is the norm. Delicious meals cooked to order, walks to historical and cultural sites, ferry rides to surrounding islands and a bird sanctuary, cycling through villages – choose a-la-carte or go for the whole buffet, the choice is yours.
Only at Champakali in the heart of Old Goa. Comprising just two bright and airy villas on a hill beside the lush beauty of the Mandovi river delta. Offering a luxury experience but as close to Nature as one can feel. Laze on a hammock under the banyan tree, float in the warm blue pool, read a book on easy chairs in your private balcony, have juice under a gazebo, smell the flowers, lie back on the grass – you have the property mostly to yourself. Check in to see for yourself – any time of the year. Especially during the monsoons.
TWO VILLAS WITH SIX BEDROOMS
Champakali has just two villas called Banyan and Teakset on two acres of farm orchard land. Each with three bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and private balconies. Both villas have their own living room, dining room, gazebo, courtyard and kitchen. Every room has a unique personality, furnished with eclectic, hand-picked furniture, linens, art and oddities. They are built, decorated and cared for as homes, but outfitted and serviced on par with the best hotels. The villas are outfitted with books, games, a piano and guitar, and four bicycles.
You can book a room, or the complete villa for yourself.
* Bedrooms in Banyan Villa: Mayna, Bullbull and Mor.
* Teak Villa: Tota, Kauwa and Kabootar.
Champakali pride themselves on serving varied cuisines, preparedto order from scratch by their in-house chef, with the freshest local ingredients. Homemade muesli, fresh Goan breads and French crepes make for a signature breakfast. Chef Mathieu is French – he ensures the crepes are light, delicious and authentic as they should be. Accompanied with the best single-origin coffee from South Indian plantations, and their own bespoke tea blends.
YOGA AND SPA
A specially designed yoga plinth awaits for those who want an energetic start to the day – with a yoga instructor on call. A brand new spa awaits those looking at a refresh and a bit of pampering.
The location of Champakali is apt to explore the under-discovered historical and natural heritage of Goa.
The iconic Church of Our Lady of the Mount is a five minute uphill walk away, offering a spectacular view of green Velha Goa, studded with its signature historical monuments. A 15 minute walk down the hill puts you in the middle of that view, surrounded by all the highlights of colonial Goa, including the Basilica of Bom Jesus, the Se Cathedral, and the ruins of the Church of Saint Augustine. Pop into Goa’s famed bakeries while you stroll or cycle around.
Short ferry rides on the Mandovi river will get you to the Divar and Chorao islands, ideal for long walks or bicycle rides. Birdwatchers and nature lovers will especially enjoy the Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary on Chorao, still off the beaten path. The beaches of Goa are not far away.
Guided tours can be arranged, or you could take off on your own with a good guide book.
WELCOME TO A HOME, NOT A HOTEL
In the words of Bindu Sethi, the co-owner, “Champakali is my dream and passion. The villas are lovingly designed, built, decorated, giving the feeling of a home. With comforts and service of a boutique hotel. I welcome you to share in its warmth and beauty.”
