Travel to Ladakh in Magical Winters Over New Year: December 2015

Winters in Leh are about peace and serenity. A blanket of white covers the place, giving it a magical feel. The Indus and Zanskar rivers are close to freezing point, and temperatures drop significantly below normal levels. In such harsh conditions, it is amazing to see locals, children and adults participating in fast-paced and competitive ice hockey.

Winter brings out the best in Leh. Come and experience the magic with Kunzum and LetsLeh.

Day-wise Itinerary

Day 1:

  • Arrive in Leh and check-in

Today is a lazy day where you just relax in order to acclimatize and get used to the thin and cold air

  • Take a short walk to Leh market for lunch/dinner

Day 2:
After breakfast, head out for some sight-seeing

  • Visit Sangam point, which is the confluence of the Indus and Zanskar rivers

You will find parts of the river frozen. It will be slippery and fun to walk on!

  • Drive to Magnetic Hill to witness an interesting phenomenon
  • Later, visit Gurudwara Pathar Sahib where we pay respect to Guru Nanak
  • Last halt for the day will be the Hall of Fame

The Hall of Fame is an army museum and is an exhaustive repository of information about Ladakh, its natural beauty, people, wildlife, the army and its presence, and battles fought on this beautiful land. Army men here are very friendly and willing to explain the details of each artefact. You can spend hours engrossed in the history of Ladakh.

Day 3:
This day will be the highlight of the journey!

  • In the morning, head to Khardung La Pass

At a height of 18,380 feet, it is said to be the highest motor-able pass and road in the world. You will feel a sense of excitement standing at the top and experiencing stunning views all around.

  • While returning, visit the Shanti Stupa

This is a beautiful and unique stupa, majestic in all its white glory. It towers over the town and offers the most stunning 360 degree view of Leh

  • Later, visit the Leh Palace and learn about its history and unique architecture

Day 4:
A day full of excitement!

  • Drive to the amazing (and stunning) Pangong Tso

It will be a long journey, and you will pass through the mighty Chang La Pass, which is said to be the third highest motor-able pass in the world. The lake will greet you with shades of blue, green or emerald, depending on the weather. Parts of the lake may be frozen, giving you the chance to walk over it. Part of the lake is in India and the remaining is in Tibet.

Day 5:

  • After breakfast, head out to the Karzo Ice Hockey rink to watch ice skating/ice hockey action

Karzo is a small pond located in Leh which freezes in winters to convert into a spectacular ice skating/ice hockey rink. It has been voted as one of the best ice hockey rinks in the world.

  • Remainder of the day can be spent at leisure for shopping or other activities

Day 6:

  • After breakfast, leave for Leh Airport
