There are many ways to learn to be a good travel photographer. And then there is the Kunzum approach, where we teach you the way we have learnt for ourselves: A bit of theory, the right mentorship and lots of practice. Try it for yourselves – we strongly recommend it.

If you want to be a good photographer, you have to appreciate the art behind the imagery. Pick up some technical skills. And then allow your senses to create something only you can. Your photography has to be your own. Your identity has to be stamped on it.

But we all need mentors to make it happen. The Kunzum Media Lab can play that role. With our unique approach to teaching you the art of photography.

Workshop 1: Preparing Yourself

Before you start with photography, it is important to get a handle on the essentials that include:

  • What defines travel photography
  • What makes for a good travel photographer
  • Brief overview of opportunities in travel photography
  • Equipment: Developing an understanding of the same covering
    • Types of cameras and formats
    • Lenses
    • Flash units
    • Accessories needed
    • What to buy and at what stage

* Who should attend: Beginners. No age or other restrictions. Not essential to own a camera.

Workshop 2: The Basics

This workshop take you through the essential technical stuff. Once you understand these concepts, photography is mostly practice and your art after that. Will cover:

  • Composition
  • Shutter
  • Aperture
  • Depth of Field
  • ISO / Film Speed
  • Exposure and Metering
  • Light
  • Colour Temperature / White Balance òFilters

* Who should attend: Beginners. No age or other restrictions. Ideally you should possess a DSLR camera but not mandatory.

* What you need to carry: Your camera if you have one – not essential.

Workshop 3: Different Situations in Travel Photography

When on the go, you will be shooting many different subjects – and each will require to be handled differently. You will need to have the right equipment, and each situation will demand you to prepare and act in a different way. Your tutors will cover these by showing you different photographs and what went into capturing each. These can be broadly divided into:

  • Nature / Wildlife
  • Portraits / People
  • Outdoor / Landscape
  • Street Photography
  • Events

* Who should attend: Anyone. No age or other restrictions. Not essential to own a camera.

* Schedule: Sunday, August 21, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
* What you need to carry: Your camera if you have one – not essential.

Workshop 4: Essential Digital Post Processing

Most images need at least some amount of post processing using a suitable software to bring out the best of what has been captured. This is a subject that may require many sessions to cover comprehensively. However, knowledge of the essentials will be enough to process your photos for most purposes. Will cover:

  • Fundamentals
  • RAW, JPEG and TIFF files
  • File sizes
  • Lightroom and Aperture
  • Photoshop

* Who should attend: Those starting out on digital post processing. No age or other restrictions. Not essential to own a camera.
* Tutor: Prashanth Vishwanathan
* Schedule: Sunday, August 21, 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
* What you need to carry: Your laptop with some pictures you have taken in JPEG / RAW formats.

Workshop 5: Branding and Marketing yourself as a Photographer

If you are into photography as a personal hobby only for yourself and close family and friends, you don’t need this. However, you may want the world to see and admire your work. Your reasons could be non-commercial, or you could be trying to make a living as a photographer. The arsenal you need will comprise:

  • Your domain name and identity on the net
  • Website
  • Blogs
  • Social Media: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+
  • Opportunities with media including newspapers, magazines and websites
  • Exhibiting your work
  • Publishing books and portfolios including self publishing

* Who should attend: Photographers of all experience and levels including beginners and professionals. No age or other restrictions.
* Tutor: Ajay Jain
* Schedule: Sunday, August 21, 5:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
* What you need to carry: A laptop for browsing the net – not essential.
